
Biography
Spanish soprano Aitana Sanz began her vocal studies with soprano Isabel Rey and graduated with distinction (Matrícula de Honor) with a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien), under the tutelage of Prof. KS Krassimira Stoyanova, with whom she continues to perfect her vocal technique.
She has been a member of the Accademia Rossiniana of the Rossini Opera Festival, the Young Singers Project of the Salzburg Festival, and the Accademia of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
She made her debut at the Teatro Pérez Galdós as Una Voce dal Cielo (Don Carlo), subsequently returning to the same stage as Olympia (Les contes d’Hoffmann) and Elisetta (Il matrimonio segreto). Since then, her roles have included Contessa di Folleville (Il viaggio a Reims) at the Rossini Opera Festival; Frasquita (Carmen) at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Palau de les Arts; Die Stimme des Falken (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at the Dutch National Opera; Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore) at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo; Ismene (Mitridate, re di Ponto) at the Opéra de Lausanne; Clorinda (La Cenerentola) at the Bregenz Festival; Sophie (Werther) at the Teatro Cervantes de Málaga; and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Teatro Mario del Monaco and the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo. Additionally, she performed Rosina in Paisiello's Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro de la Maestranza, made her US operatic debut as Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), and is scheduled to make her upcoming debut at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
Her upcoming engagements include Gilda (Rigoletto) at the Teatro Coccia in Novara, Elena (Il cappello di paglia di Firenze) at the Opéra de Nice, and the soprano solo in Mendelssohn's Elijah with the RTVE Symphony Orchestra.
She has performed under the direction of prominent conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Marc Albrecht, Gianluca Capuano, Michele Spotti, Yves Abel, and Sesto Quatrini.
Her accolades include the Grand Prize at the inaugural K-Gagok Superstar competition (KBS, Seoul), First Prize at both the Giulio Neri and Marmo all’Opera international competitions, Third Prize at the Alfredo Kraus International Singing Competition, and the Under 25 Prize at the CLIP Portofino International Competition.
